Al Qudra Lakes is often described as one of Dubai’s best camping spots. It has become popular with tourists, residents, campers from nearby emirates, outdoor enthusiasts, wildlife lovers, friends and families. The lakes are especially suitable for children who enjoy running around outside in the sand, and they offer a much-needed getaway from Dubai’s bustling city life.
The lake banks can be cool and comfortable, making them ideal for meditation, relaxation, reading or simply disconnecting. You do not necessarily need a four-wheel-drive vehicle to visit: a sedan can reach the area, although the final approach includes unpaved sections and you should drive carefully.

Wildlife and photography
The lakes are a photographer’s paradise, with picturesque scenes from dawn to dusk. Many kinds of wildlife and birds can be seen in the area. It is home to 26 identified reptile species, and 360 bird species have been spotted here, including 158 migratory species. You may also encounter deer or gazelles crossing the unpaved roads.
Flamingo Lake is a particularly enjoyable place to observe water birds. Keep a respectful distance from wildlife, do not feed animals and leave their habitats undisturbed.
Family picnics and camping
The sides of Al Qudra Lakes make a superb picnic area for families. There are artificial, photogenic places to explore, and children often enjoy seeing fish and birds. Walking in the water can be an amazing experience. In the evening, the place can still look beautiful without lights: it is calm, cool and free from city noise.
The lakes are commonly visited by other campers throughout the year, which can make the area feel less isolated. Weekday early mornings and sunsets are usually the most peaceful times. Friendly police patrols may be present, but you remain responsible for your group, equipment and safety.
Facilities and activities
A lovely place for a family picnic, the area may have barbecue pits and toilets available. During summer, shade can be difficult to find and it may be too hot for a comfortable picnic. The Google Maps route leads to the entrance. Cycling is not allowed inside the lakes area.
Bring your own water, food and picnic accessories, as there are no nearby shops and the closest supplies may be more than a half-hour drive away. A moonlit night can offer beautiful views, but plan your return and lighting carefully.
Safety alert and preparation
Drive slowly. The final approximately 4 km from the entrance point is untarred and dusty. Depending on the lake area you choose, the approach can feel like around 30 minutes of off-road driving. Drive to the conditions, avoid risky routes and do not enter waterlogged or restricted areas.
- Carry rubber slippers if you plan to cross shallow lake edges barefoot.
- Bring plenty of drinking water, food, sun protection, a first-aid kit and enough fuel for the return journey.
- Pack a torch or headlamp for evening visits and keep your phone charged.
- Check current local access, camping, barbecue, toilet and cycling rules before leaving.
- Take all rubbish home and leave no trace around the lakes.
