Wadi Ghub – Spectrum hike

One of the beautiful colorful mountain valley for weekend hikes, filled with attractive color gradients and layers of rocks all around the mountain, and beautiful view, along side gentle cool breeze in winter. In summer this place is a no go zone unless you are starting early morning and finishing by 9 AM before the sun get hot.

The hike is moderate to difficult, because there is minimal shade and the trail has loose gravel on multiple stretches of the trail. We had our share of falls and slips on this trail. Recommended only for groups (not solo) with a minimum of 3 ltrs of water per hiker. Even during winters, the afternoon sun can get to you without appropriate sun protection and ample water.

The wadi offers beautiful views with colorful rock formation. A walk of 30 mins, you will be right in front of the famous colorful rock formations, and people call the spectrum or rainbow valley. Given its unique look and feel, it is a “must visit” site, if you are into hiking in the UAE. The trail is straight forward and all you need to do is to follow the wadi all the way up. There i no way you can get lost in this wadi. You will experience substantial boulder climbing, and scrambling over smoothened rocks. Being in a group, helped us to navigate the boulders or while descending them.

This scenic mountains are so popular for its multi-colored rock formations throughout the valley. As Name suggests, its a wadi – which means valley & has the elevation of 370 meters to our summit. You can choose to hike further depending on your pace. The one thing that make this place unique from other mountains is their color formations on the rocks.
