Ras-al-Khaima, the northern emirate of UAE is the best place you can ever find for climbing and rappelling. Its name in English means “top of the tent”. The emirate borders Oman’s exclave of Musandam, and occupies part of the same peninsula. It covers an area of 2,486 km2 (960 sq mi) and has 64 km (40 mi) of beach coastline.
Ras-al-Khaima, is filled with mountains. You can find many routes and mountains all the way through northern side of the emirate spreading to Oman. The famous mountain ranges Jabal Jais, situated on the city’s outskirts, is the highest peak in the UAE, at 1,934m, and is home to the world’s longest zipline.
The climbing community in UAE is very small, literally everyone knows each other. Rock climbing is not so popular in UAE. But slowly gaining people attention very recently. The amazing rocky mountain ranges has a wonderful potential for rock climbing activities. With the help and support of this small community with handful of rock climbing enthusiast, legends and very generous experts, a number crags and climbing routes are developed in few selected locations.
Since the authorities started recognizing the enthusiasm of this climbing community, they have decided to publish the location of these rock climbing destination to public.
Everyone in UAE Rock climbing community is committed to follow a code of conduct and professional etiquette and ethics while using the climbing routes and crags. These routes are maintained the community and its everybody’s responsibility to take care of each other. The community has a facebook group and everyone is invited to join there. Any updates and notices shall be shared there for everyone’s awareness. Any potential hazards, safety notes, events, questions, gathering can be posted and arranged there in the facebook group. Everyone is encouraged to post their safety observation as soon as they find any, in the facebook group.
